Geological Details
The Paleoproterozoic Callinan Deposit, which straddles the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border 2200 m and 1000 m north of the North Main shaft of the Flin Flon Main Mine, is actually two discrete orebodies - The Callinan North Deposit and the Callinan South Deposit. The Callinan South Deposit is located approximately 1,000 m north of the Flin Flon Deposit and the Callinan North Deposit is located approximately 1,200 m (0.75 mile) north of Callinan South. Both deposits are, stratigraphically, at the same level as the Flin Flon Deposit. Only the upper portion of the Callinan North Deposit lies in Saskatchewan. The Callinan Deposits are hosted by north-trending, east-dipping, east-facing Amisk Group volcanics. The footwall rocks are a sequence of mafic pillowed flows and fragmental breccias ("South Main Basalt") and the hanging wall rocks are a sequence of porphyritic, pillowed mafic flows named the Hidden Lake Basalts. The deposits are hosted within a rhyolitic sequence of rocks that, stratigraphically, at the top of the South Main Basalt. The unit is likely equivalent to the "mine rhyolite" that hosts the Flin Flon orebody. The deposits lie on the east limb of the Beaver Road Antiform. The host rocks have been metamorphosed to the greenschist facies. The mineralization within the main zone of shearing and alteration consists of disseminated grains and massive veins of sulphides, mainly pyrite and pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Several subsidiary zones of highly altered and mineralized andesite occur in the hanging wall or east side of the main shear zone. These subsidiary zones contain disseminated to massive pyrrhotite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite associated with stringers and veins of quartz. The several subsidiary drill-indicated mineralized zones cannot be correlated along strike or down dip. Only the upper portions of the Callinan North and South Deposits are within Saskatchewan. The Callinan South Deposit (lower felsics), which was discovered by drilling in the early 1980's, is made up of at least six distinct stacked sulphide lenses that occur within a 250 m thick zone of intercalated mafic lapilli tuffs and quartz porphyries. The uppermost quartz porphyry unit and the lowermost multiple quartz porphyry units are separated by a 50 m wide zone of chlorite schist. The stacked sulphide lenses, which are intimately associated with the quartz porphyry units, are formed by near massive to massive, fine grained, pyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite and subordinate galena and arsenopyrite. The footwall alteration zone of this deposit consists of chlorite and sericite schists mineralized with stringers of pyrite, pyrrhotite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite. The 'main' lens, which is located near the top of the lower multiple rhyolite units, has a strike length of approximately 200 m, an average thickness of 3 m and extends vertically from the 670 m level to the 800 m level. The main lens dips 53°E and plunges 20°SW. The dip steepens at depth to 25° at depth. The Callinan North Deposit was discovered by diamond drilling while testing the surface showings of the Four Queens Zone in 1985. The deposit, which is not exposed in outcrop, consists of multiple sulphide lenses hosted by quartz and feldspar porphyritic rhyolite. The host rocks are overlain by mafic flows and underlain by mafic lapilli tuffs. Mineralization consists of fine-grained banded sphalerite, pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. The lower footwall lens has a strike length of approximately 275 m, an average width of 7 m and a vertical depth of approximately 175 m. Overall, the lenses in the North Deposit dip 40°E and plunge 35°SE. Only the upper portion of this orebody lies within Saskatchewan. The East Zone, which is an extension of the sulphide lenses to the south of the North Deposit, consists of two separate lenses (numbered 2 and 3) located close to the top of the Flin Flon Mine horizon quartz phyric rhyolite. The host rhyolite is underlain by a fragmental andesite. The lower or No. 3 lens, which is 0.5 to 20 ft wide and which dips 60 to 65°E, consists of 45 to 75% sulphides that includes sphalerite and pyrrhotite with lesser pyrite, galena and chalcopyrite. The No. 2 lens, which is found 30 to 70 ft above the No. 3 lens, varies in width from 5 to 44 ft. The lens, which is similar to the South Zone No. 7 lens contains up to 80% banded sulphides that includes pyrite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite in near even concentrations and lesser pyrrhotite. The No. 2 lens dip, which varies from 45° to 60°E, steepens with depth. The numerous lenses that form the North, South and East Callinan deposits have been interpreted as being due to block thrust faulting of a mineralized extension of the Main Mine horizon. A small zinc showing is noted on GSC map 1078A in a sheared quartz-feldspar porphyry at the deposit location. 2013-14 diamond drill program of 15 holes on the Triple 7 mine property (holes T7X-330, -332 to -336, -338, -342, -354 to -356, -358, -359, -374, -376).

Exploration History
6/29/1988 The Consolidated Callinan Flin-Flon Mines Limited property, consisting of the AMIRILLIS, DAN, JANETTE, EOLA and FOUR QUEEN claims and also part of the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. ML 5004, is located 0.5 to 1.5 miles (0.8 to 2.4 km) north of Flin Flon and east of Flin Flon Lake. Exploration began with trenching and diamond drilling in the 1927 to 1929 period followed by 19,000 ft (5791 m) of diamond drilling in 1937 and 1938, and 16,000 ft (4877 m) in 1949 to 1952. A geophysical survey was carried out in 1945, and a gravimetric survey in 1948. The foregoing was conducted on both sides of the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border. By 1938 the company had reported the discovery of a zone of copper-zinc mineralization 640 ft (195 m) long by 12 to 36 in (30.5 to 91.4 cm) wide. Further uneconomic quantities of chalcopyrite and sphalerite were intersected in 1951 and 1952. In 1965, an IP and magnetic survey as well as 4254 ft (1297 m) of drilling were conducted on the trend on the Saskatchewan side of the border. A further 15,663 ft (4774 m) was reported in 1968. As a result of the drilling and geophysical work, a zone of intense shearing and alteration consisting of chlorite schist, sericite schist, and chlorite-sericite schist was traced over a length of 5000 ft (1524 m) and a width of up to 400 ft (122 m) lying along the contact between porphrytic andesite breccia and amygdaloidal andesite. The zone is probably the main northern extension of the Flin Flon ore zone. An additional 4,774 m of delineation drilling was completed in 1968. In 1969, Hudson Bay Exploration and Development completed an ground EM survey over the property (AF 63K12-0060). This work was completed on the JOHNNY BARON, VIRGINIA, FOX TROT OH DON’T and MARY E claims. Between 1976 and 1979, Hudson Bay Exploration completed a 1,472 m long exploration drift at the 1,690 ft level that extended from the North Main shaft to the Callinan Deposit. Revised reserves figures were released in 1978. Between 1980 and 1981, Hudson Bay completed an extensive underground delineation drill program on the deposit. Surface drilling conducted between 1984 and 1985 to the north of the South Callinan Deposit intersected the North Callinan Deposit. By 1986, 17,882 m of delineation drilling had outlined two separate zones of sulphide mineralization that contained at least 6 separate distinct suplhide lenses. Revised deposit reserves were released in 1989. In March 1988, Manitoba Mineral Resources entered into an agreement with Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting to purchase a 49% interest in the deposits. Consolidated Callinan Flin Flon Mines retains a 6.67% net profits interest in the property. In 1989, a drift was driven at the 2,210 foot level from the North Main shaft to the Callinan Deposits and a second drift was planned at the 2,750 ft level. In February of the same year, Hudson Bay completed ground VLF-EM and magnetic surveys over the WAN 12 grid on Q-1303 (formerly MARY E claim), Q-1281 (formerly VIRGINIA claim) and Q-1105 (formerly JONNY BARON claim), Q-1289 (formerly FOX TROT claim) and Q-1290 (AF 63K13-0060). Drill hole FOX TROT-1 was completed on WAN 12 grid on Q-1289 (AF 63K12-0167). No significant values were intersected in this hole. In April 1990, mining of the Manitoba portion of the Callinan South Deposit commenced. At this time the combined deposit reserves were given (Northern Miner: 4/02/1990, pB11). From 1992 to 1993, Hudson Bay Exploraion completed drill holes 4Q-48, 50, 51, 54, 61, and 62 on the old OWENS claim and completed drill holes 4Q-49 and 55 on the old FOUR QUEENS claim to further test the Callinan Horizon at depth (AF 63K13-0073). Drill holes 4Q-49, 50, 51, 55, and 62 intersected Cu-Zn values within metavolcanic flows. From 1993 to 1994, Hudson Bay completed drill holes FFS-8 to FFS-11 and 4Q-65 to test a favourable Quartz Porphyry Horizon which is located in the footwall of the Main Mine Horizon (AF 63K13-0074). The drill holes intersected pyrite and pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite. In 1994, new deposit reserve figures were generated. In 1996, underground drill hole CX-901 was completed (AF 63K12-0082) and existing drill hole FFS-012W2 was deepened (AF 63K12-0194), In the same year, four drill holes were completed to test the Quartz Porphyry Horizon (AF 63K12-0190 and -0191) and detailed geological mapping was completed on this showing (AF 63K13-0084). In 1997, holes FFS-015 and -016 were completed (AF 63K12-0199) and bore hole PEM surveys were conducted (AF 63K12-0200). In the 28 May, 1998, Northern Miner, Hudson Bay announced the discovery of the new 777 (Triple 7) Zone at the Callinan Mine. The zone lies between 800m and 1,500 m below the surface. At the same time, revised reserves were released for the Callinan Mine. In 1999, Hudson Bay Exploration and Development completed drill holes 4Q-72 to 4Q-76 on the Callinan North Mine or CAL MINE grid (AF 63K13-0089). The holes were completed to test the mine horizon geology and to test the mineralization up plunge. In the August 2001 Mining Magazine, HBM&S announced that the 777 Mine shaft had broken through into the Manitoba portion of the Callinan mine workings at the 600 m level. In 2001, Hudson Bay completed drill holes FFS-023 and FFS-024 on the Callinan grid between the deposit and the Flin Flon mine deposit to test the west quartz porphyry horizon in the stratigraphic footwall of the Flin Flon deposit (AF 63K13-0092). No significant sulphide mineralization was encountered. On 8 October 2004, it was announced that Ontzinc Corporation had purchased Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting from Anglo Ameriacn International SA for $325 million and that the company was to be renamed Husdon Bay International Minerals Corporation. As of 1 January 2004, Hudson Bay reports Callinan Mine production and reserves as part of the 777 Mine production and reserves.
