Geological Details
The Day Lake Showing is located on the northwest shore of Day Lake in a broad bay approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of the northern tip of the lake. The gold showing occurs within a gossaned quartz vein traceable for 400 ft (122 m) and parallels the local gneissosity, which trends northeast and dips vertically. The host rock consists of paragneiss composed of regularly spaced quartz-rich bands with alternating biotite and mafic minerals. Pyrite and arsenopyrite are present and a selected sample yielded 0.82 oz./ton Au. In 1984, D. Jiricka remapped the showing. He concluded the gold mineralization was hosted by a conformable, extensively mylonitized chert horizon. This horizon is hosted within a sequence of interlayered felsic and mafic meta-sediments and meta-tuffs. A grab sample assayed 0.349 oz./ton Au and a chip sample taken across 1 metre ran 0.057 oz./ton Au. In 1986, Colchis mapped, prospected and chip sampled (10 samples) the Day Lake Showing. This work traced the strataform mineralization discontinously over a strike length of 6.2 km (3.85 miles). This work located a northeast extension of the stratiform mineralization present at the Day Lake Showing. Chip samples returned the following values: SAMPLE PPB PPM PPM PPM PPM PPM PPM PPM SAMPLE NUMBER AU MO CU PB ZN AG NI AS GEOLOGY _____________________________________________________________________________ 7001 925 1 281 18 60 1.3 9 9130 2% py in chert band 7003 2630 2 69 4 19 0.9 8 636 0.4 m wide qtz vein 7004 2050 1 783 52 79 2.6 69 17251 py: 0.3 m wide band 7029 930 3 649 6529 95 115.9 132 19995 none available 7039 3750 4 64 687 319 6.3 13 27439 5% py, 105 asp:tuff 7040 3350 4 216 464 137 4.0 18 28564 same as above 7043 790 5 524 118 138 2.7 67 6025 8% py, 2% asp:chert PIT 3 2950 2 425 19 31 0.8 24 28135 N/A PIT 4 4330 1 175 10 1 1.6 48 10112 N/A PIT 5 51100 3 136 12 6 11.1 15 28069 N/A PIT 6 53200 9 305 11 1 4.9 15 27123 N/A In 1986, Colchis discovered the Tent Showing - a second identically mineralized chert horizon, which is located slightly to the southwest and along strike with the Day Lake Showing on the shore of Day Bay (grid coordinates 1+00E and 0+00). The Tent Showing is located in the same stratigraphic position as the Day Lake Showing. The mineralization consists of disseminated to locally massive pyrite and arsenopyrite plus minor galena and chalcopyrite. Exploration History
7/7/1988 In 1940, G.M. Furnival geologically mapped NTS block 74P at a scale of 1 inch to 4 miles for the geological survey of Canada. Between 1959 and 1960, F.J. Johnston geologically mapped the showing area at a scale of 1:63,360 for the Saskatchewan Department of Mineral Resources. Permit No. l was obtained in l967 by Five Star Petroleum and Mines Ltd. A gamma ray spectrometer survey by Roving Exploration Services outlined anomalous areas for ground checking by Canadian Industrial Oil & Gas Ltd. who held the property under option from Five Star in l968. In 1980, C.F. Gilboy completed a 1:250,000 geological compilation of the showing area for the Province of Saskatchewan. Between 1981 and 1984, SMDC optioned the property. SMDC completed an airborne INPUT survey and a ground follow-up program of anomaly checkwork. The property was allowed to lapse. On 24 September 1985, Colchis Resources Ltd acquired the showing by staking CBS 7888. In 1986, Colchis completed a program of geological mapping, VLF-EM, prospecting and channel sampled the showing (AF 74P12-0012). Analyses results are given above. In 1988, Colchis completed 11 drill holes to test the A (Day and Tent showings) and B (northwest of A structure) structures (AF 74P12-0013). The better intersections are reported above.
