Geological Details
The Twin Zones were discovered in 1981 as a result of exploration on the nearby Wedge Lake Showing. They lie approximately 1500 ft (457 m) east and consist of two parallel zones containing mineralization associated with oxide facies iron formation. The zones are coincident with a geochemical anomaly that extends over a strike length of 1500 ft (457 m). The Twin Zones occur within a complexly folded banded sedimentary iron formation that appears to strike at least 3500 m (11,483 ft) and exhibits widths from 4 m (13 ft) to greater than 20 m (66 ft). Three diamond drill holes tested the north limb of the zone and intersected Au values in a sulphide-rich brecciated unit; on the south limb five drill holes were completed and four contained gold mineralization in breccia except drill hole 82-5 in which a rhyolitic unit cut off the breccia. The plunge of the formation is estimated to be near vertical. The drilling established a minimum strike length of 500 m (1640 ft); it remained open to the east and west along strike and open at depth. The assays returned ranged from 0.08 oz./ton over 2 m (6.56 ft) to 0.68 oz./ton Au over 1 m (3.28 ft; drill hole 82-9). The area contains a zone of mineralization containing approximately 600,000 tons grading 0.18 oz./ton Au which remains open to depth and down plunge. Further diamond drilling totalling 1210 m (3970 ft) in 1983 returned an assay high of 0.348 oz./ ton over 5.5 m (18 ft). R. Netolitzky mapped the Twin Zones in 1985 and concuded that the zones best fit a volcanogenic exhalative model which has undergone a complex structural history. Netolitzky could not determine any recognizable alteration pattern. He concluded that the zone may have formed proximal to a hydrothermal vent. The mineralization is hosted within a mixed sulphide/oxide/silicate facies iron formation breccia and is intimately associated with arsenopyrite. Netolitsky feels that the host rock represents a slump breccia of local origin which developed along with a regional sulphide facies iron formation. The thickness of the breccia and the presence of local tight folding, caused by either soft sediment deformation during slumping or by tectonic deformation during the Hudsonian, indicate that the deposit host rocks formed during local rifting. The slump covered a fissure vent which was still actively discharging hydrothermal fluids. This kept the breccia porous and permeable. The breccia restricted the rate of fluid discharge such that a favourable environment was established for the co-precipitation of arsenopyrite and native gold. Mafic volcanics, present as thin flows, prevented erosion of the deposit. Netolitzky feels that the two zones present were probably originally one continous horizon which has been complicated by folding on multiple axes and then separation into two zones by faulting. Exploration History
12/1/2024 Arya Resources is preparing to further explore mineralization at the Wedge Lake gold project on the western shore of Weedy Lake. (Saskatchewan Exploration and Development Highlights 2024, p.13-14) 7/24/1989 In 1951, the Nistoassini Lake area was covered by part of the Mincor Concession of the Mining Corporation of Canada, Limited. Subsequent prospecting in 1952 (?) located three gold showings in the vicinity of Wedge Lake (a small lake 0.2 miles (0.3 km) east of Sonya Lake). The Trench 12 Zone (or vein 2) is approximately 215 m (705 ft) northwest of Wedge Lake. Trenching traced a north-northwest-trending quartz vein over a length of 46 m (151 ft); sampling returned up to 0.73 oz./ton Au over 1.8 m (5.9 ft). The Trench 6 Zone (or vein 1) is approximately 90 m (295 ft) east of the southeastern end of Wedge lake. Trenching traced a west-northwest-trending quartz vein for 27 m (89 ft). In 1952, eight holes were drilled on the vein; only one intersected the vein and assayed 1.52 oz./ton Au over 1.5 m (4.9 ft). The Trench 20 Zone (or vein 3) is approximately 450 m (1476 ft) east of Wedge Lake. An easterly-trending quartz vein was traced for 36 m (118 ft). Sampling returned up to 0.22 oz./ton Au over 1.8 m (5.9 ft) (along the vein?). As well as the trenching and sampling, Mincor conducted a dip-needle survey and geological mapping during 1951 to 1953. In 1953, 8 holes were drilled on the Wedge Lake Showing and a 9th hole was drilled on the Sonya pyrite-pyrrhotite zone for a total of 2403 ft (732 m). Only one hole intersected the Wedge vein; a core length of 5 ft (1.5 m) gave an assay of 1.52 oz./ ton Au from the vein. Good values were reported from pits and trenches. The property was restaked by J.J. Johnston in 1955 as the MUSK Group. In 1957, geological mapping, magnetic (AF 64D04-0026) and geochemical soil sampling were reported. The property was subsequently allowed to lapse. The next available information shows that CBS 1447 was staked around the showing by 1968. Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. Ran a ground EM survey over the claim block (AF 64D04-0048) but no other work was reported and the claim lapsed by March of 1971. The area was restaked by Granges Exploration as CBS 2224 (staked 16 August 1971) and CBS 2227 (staked 25 August 1971). The only work reported consisted of a ground EM survey and diamond drilling on the property (CBS 2224, AF 64D04-0060; CBS 2227, AF 64D04-0061). Results were not encouraging and the claims lapsed with no further work reported. CBS 2227 lapsed 25 August 1976 and CBS 2224 lapsed 1 May 1978. Giant Yellowknife Mines Ltd. Optioned the area as CBS 6730 on 1 November 1980 in joint venture with Golden Rule Resources Ltd. And SMDC. An intensive exploration program was begun that same year by the operators of the property, Giant Yellowknife, with grid re-establishment over the area, ground EM and magnetic surveys, soil sampling, trench cleaning and resampling, mapping, and a re-examination of gold occurrences (AF 64D05-0076). In the spring of 1981, the three zones were tested with a 1500 m (4921 ft) drill program. Ground EM and magnetic surveys continued, detailed geological mapping over the zones was completed and cat trenching, surface channel sampling, soil geochemistry and gold panning were done to further investigate the extent of the showing (AF 64D-05-0082). Drilling on the Trench 12 and Trench 20 zones was not able to establish any continuity of the veins. Drilling on the Trench 6 zone intersected significant gold values in five of ten holes. Drill hole 4 intersected four zones which together averaged 0.47 oz./ton Au over a length of 26.6 m (87 ft). The Trench 6 mineralized zone was traced over a length of 50 m (164 ft) and a vertical extent of 75 m (246 ft). Grid coverage was extended to the southern boundary of the property so that geological and geochemical surveys could be completed. In 1981, detailed prospecting of geochemical anomalies led to the discovery of the Twin Zones. Initial grab samples returned values of 0.08 to 0.25 oz./ ton Au. From 1982 to 1983, these zones were extensively trenched, stripped and grab sampled. A total of 25 holes, completed on the zones, established a strike length of 450 m (1476 ft). Drilling on 25 m (82.0 ft) centres to an average vertical depth of 75 m (246 ft) indicated that there were two westerly-plunging mineralized zones. Both zones are open at depth. Combined reserves calculations for these zones were announced in 1983. During the winter of 1983, linecutting and VLF-EM and magnetic surveys were completed. In 1984, a $ 320,000 program involving geological mapping, prospecting, and 9 drill holes (1292 m or 4232 ft) was completed. At the end of the program, preliminary reserves and metallurgical test results were released. By January 1986, the claims had converted to ML 5337. In 1991, Golden Rule released revised ore reserves calculations. In 2004, ODAAT completed drill holes ED04-5 and -6 on the Twin zone (AF 64D04-NW-0193). Assay results from these holes are pending. In 2005, ODAAT Inc. completed ground HLEM and magnetic surveys over the showing (AF 64D05-0141). 9/24/2024 Arya Resources Ltd. is pleased to announce the Company has submitted an exploration permit application, including drilling, for its Wedge Lake Gold project- Twin & T6 Gold (Au) zones in, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Wedge Lake Gold project is accessible via provincial highway 102 and three kilometres away from the Golden Heart Gold mine access-road. Gold mineralization is widespread with several zones / occurrences of gold having been identified and worked over the years on the Wedge Lake Property. There are 5 main zones of gold mineralization on the property: Twin and T-20, T-6, T-12 and Main Zone. The gold mineralization is associated with either the iron formation, or quartz veins as native gold within shear zones in close proximity to the iron formations. Previous work in 1982-1984 identified several gold zones and one silver zone: Twin Gold Zones: 1983-1984 Giant Yellowknife – Golden Rule Res. drilled two zones that combined 545,000 tons grading 0.16 oz/ton (5.49 g/t) Au to 675,000 tons grading 0.15 oz/ton (5.15 g/t) Au to depths of 125 to 175 m; Open at depth and down plunge. T-6 Gold Zone: T-6 Zone has native gold hosted in quartz vein traced over a strike length of 182.9 meters (m).
