Geological Details
The Laonil Island Vein Gold Showing is located on near the south end of the east shore of the largest island in Laonil Lake. The showing is approximately 1.0 mile (1.6 km) southwest of the Seabee Deposit No. 5 vein (SMDI 0382). The showing consists of an auriferous quartz-tourmaline vein system hosted by a up to 15 m (49.2 ft) wide, 265° trending shear zone that cuts Laonil Lake Intrusive Complex gabbro. Approximately 40 m (131.2 ft) west of the lake shore the shear zone trend changes to 030° and both the width of the shear zone and the width of the associated quartz veining decrease markedly. Further to the west, the shear zone weakens and appears to bifurcate. Within individual quartz veins and intercalated gabbro wall rock, one finds hornblende-plagioclase knots, fragments of earlier quartz-tourmaline veins and lenses and xenoliths of sheared feldspar porphyry that is identical to the feldspar porphyry associated with the Seabee No. 2 vein. The mineralized quartz veins, which parallel to subparallel the shear zone host, pinch and swell in thickness along strike. Individual quartz veins, range from a few mm to up to 2.2 m (7.2 ft) in thickness. The Dave Showing, or Seabee Vein 2d Structure, is located 600 ft (182.9 m) northwest of and on the same island in Laonil Lake as the Laonil Island Showing. The showing consists of a 1.8 m (5.9 ft) wide shear with quartz-tourmaline veining which cuts the Laonil Lake Intrusive Complex gabbro. The shear hosts up to 10% pyrrhotite, 5% pyrite, and minor chalcopyrite within quartz-tourmaline veining. The pyrite-pyrrhotite occurs as disseminations and as massive clots which is locally replaced by marcasite. The best assay value reported from drill samples was 0.17 g/t Au over 0.6 m (2.0 ft). Drilling completed in 1998 returned excellent values. Hole S-639 returned 12.3 g/t Au over 3.2 m (10.5 ft), hole S-633 returned 5.36 g/t Au over 2.1 m (6.9 ft). A third area of mineralized quartz veining was located on the southwest shore of the island approximately 984.3 ft (300 m) southwest of Daves Showing. This is the surface expression of a portion of the Zone 5 Mine Structure. Disseminations and small, locally massive, clots of pyrite and pyrrhotite ±chalcopyrite mineralization occur in a series of narrow shear-hosted quartz-tourmaline veins within silicified and altered Laonil Lake gabbro. Prospecting grab samples returned 5 to 20 g/t Au. This mineralization was tested by drill holes S-493, S-502, and S-503. The best value returned was 3.43 g/t Au over 0.55 m. Drill hole S-658 to S-663 intersected the structure but gold values were returned only over narrow widths (2.0 g/t Au over 0.6 m in hole S-662 and 7.67 g/t Au over 0.2 m (0.7 ft) in hole S-661). In 1999, numerous holes were completed on Laonil Island totrest the 2r and 2s zones. Exploration History
4/29/1991 In 1947, prospecting in the general area led to the discovery of the gold showing named the Seabee Deposit (SMDI. 0382). The Seabee showing was staked by B. Corregon. The Seabee showing was acquired by the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd. (Cominco) in 1948. Between 1948 and 1972, Cominco drilled and trenched the various auriferous quartz veins that comprise the Seabee showings (AF 63M12-0002). In 1972, Cominco undertook an exploration program to discover new quartz veins on the property. Several new veins were located and in 1974 several X-ray drill holes were completed to test these veins. The Seabee deposit was drill-evaluated again by Cominco in 1982 to 1983. Claude Resources Inc. acquired a 100% interest in the Seabee property from Cominco on April 27, 1984 as SEABEE claims 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 and BC Claims 3 and 4 (ML 4781 to 4790 respectively). By 1981, the showing had been staked as CBS 7057 by Currie Rose Resources Incorporated. An airborne INPUT and magnetic survey was flown over the property (AF 63M12-0010). In 1985, Currie Rose completed soil and rock sampling over the showing (AF 63M12-0019). In 1987, Currie Rose Incorporated, Claude Resources Incorporated and Placer Dome Incorporated formed a joint venture partnership to explore the Currie Rose and Seabee claim blocks. Between 1987 and 1988, Placer Dome completed grid geological mapping, prospecting and rock and soil sampling on various showings within CBS 7057 (AF 63M12-0032) and World Geoscience Corporation flew a high resolution VLF-EM and magnetic survey which covered the showing (AF 63M05-0030). In 1989, Placer Dome completed further prospecting. This work resulted in the discovery of the showing. In the same year, the showing was detail mapped, stripped, trenched and sampled. Between 1988 and 1990, a partnership involving Placer Dome (60%0 and Currie Rose Resources (40%) completed geological mapping, prospecting, sampling, and ground VLF-EM and magnetic surveys over the immediate showing area (AF 63M12-0040). Drill holes LS90-4 and -5, which were completed to test for possible extensions of the Laonil Island Vein Showing, failed to return significant assay values for gold. In 1990, G. Delaney geologically mapped the showing area for the Saskatchewan Geological Survey. Between 1994 and 1995, Claude Resources completed drill holes S-481 to S-484, S-493, S-498, S-499, S-502, and S-503 on the Dave grid to test Daves Vein [located immediately west of the Laonil Island Showing] (AF 63M12-0042). In 1996, further drilling (S-525 to -547) was completed to test the Daves Vein (AF 63M12-0043) In 1998, Claude Resources completed drill holes S-622 to -632 to explore the 2c, 2d or Daves Vein, and Vein 10 structures on the Currie Rose Option immediately to the west of the mine workings, drill holes S-633 to -648 to test Dave's Structure to the west, and holes S-658 to -663 to test the gold in the 5 Vein at the southwest tip of the island (AF 63M12-0047). In the following year, Claude completed underground drill holes S-672 to S-692, S-696, S-699 to S-708, S-715 to S-718, and S-727. to test the R and S Veins on Laonil Island (AF 63M12-0048). On 21 April 1999, Claude Resources re-staked the showing area as ML 5520 as a part of the reduction of CBS 7057.
