- The gold showing, or outcrop sample 1906-ML 2, is located 112 m (367.5 ft) south of the south shore of a small unnamed lake that is located 590 m (0.37 mile) northwest of the most northeasterly bay of MacKay Lake. The showing is 8.3 km (13.3 miles) east-northeast of the Anglo Rouyn minesite.
The showing area is underlain by a north-northeast trending, steeply west dipping alternating sequence of andesitic, dacitic and rhyolitic tuffs and tuff breccias and by subordinate metasedimentary biotite schists, felsites, and amphibolites. A unit of oxide facies iron formation occurs in the northeast corner of grid 9. This sequence of rocks is intruded by small feldspar porphyry plugs. Disseminated pyrite-pyrrhotite±graphite±magnetite is found within minor shear zones that cut the dacitic tuff.
The showing consists of up to 5% disseminated pyrite-pyrrhotite-magnetite and associated minor tourmaline and non-visible gold mineralization hosted within a 0.5 m (1.6 ft) wide quartz vein. The quartz vein is hosted within a east-northeast shear zone that cuts the dacitic tuff. Grab sample 1906-ML 2 returned 0.016 oz./ton Au. A bulk till survey run over the immediate showing area returned background values. Follow-up work completed in 1987 returned a maximum of 130 ppb Au.
The Duck Showing, is located 230 m (754.6 ft) southeast of sample site 1906-ML 2 at Lat 55°28'45" Long 104°54'15" (UTM-N: 6148350 UTM-E: 506059) or MacKay grid location 8+25N and 2+25E. The showing consists of a 1.8 m wide by 6.0 m long, hematitic, sulphide-bearing, auriferous quartz vein which crosscuts a sheared, amphibolitic gabbro. Disseminated pyrite, arsenopyrite and associated non visible gold mineralization are present in the quartz vein and adjacent wall rock returned the following assay values:

In 1989, Cameco located a small outcrop of altered amphibolitic gabbro 300 m (984.3 ft) southwest and along strike with the Duck Showing. A grab sample at this site returned 790 ppb Au.

- Exploration History
- 2/11/1992 On January 7, 1979, SMDC staked the showing area as CBS 6924. In the same year, SMDC established a grid over the general showing area and completed grid geological mapping and grab sampling of any mineralized outcrops (AF 73P07-0162). This work located a minor pyrrhotite showing in gabbro that returned up to 0.05 ppm Au.
In 1980, SMDC flew an INPUT and magnetic survey that covered the showing area (AF 73P10-0075). In the same year, SMDC completed ground HLEM and magnetic surveys over grid 9 (AF 73P07-0156). This work produced a series of anomalies in the immediate showing area. Cameco detail mapped grid 9 (AF 73P07-0165). Three grab samples taken during this mapping project returned up to 0.01 ppm Au, 1.8 ppm Ag, 70 ppm Cu, and 60 ppm Zn.
In 1985, Cameco completed a ground VLF-EM and magnetic survey over grid 9 as well as follow-up geological mapping, soil sampling and limited bulk till sampling (AF 73P07-0197). Outcrop sample ML 2 returned 0.016 oz./ton Au. This assay value constitutes SMDI 2363.
In 1986, John Lewry geologically mapped this area for the Saskatchewan Geological Survey.
In January 1986, Uranerz Exploration and Mining Limited entered into an agreement with SMDC whereby they could acquire a 30% participating interest in the Preview Lake Project. In February of the same year, Windarra Minerals Limited entered into a similar agreement. In 1987, Uranerz and Windarra met the financial requirements and became joint venture partners in the project. SMDC (as project operator) prospected and sampled the showing and nearby bulk till anomalies (AF 73P07-0247). This work did not explain the anomalous soil samples that were taken in a large muskeg. Resampling of the showing failed to reproduce the initial sample assay results.
In 1988, the partnership completed geological mapping prospecting and sampling of the MacKay grid which covers sample site ML 2 (AF 73P07-0265). This work resulted in the discovery of the Duck Showing. The Duck Showing was stripped, detail mapped and rock and soil samples were taken.
In 1989, the partnership completed mapping, prospecting, rock and bulk till sampling on grid 89-1 and the Duck Showing was channel sampled (AF 73P07-0282).
