Saskatchewan Mining and Mineral Inc. (SMMI) was approved for a $3M, interest-free loan from PrairiesCan's Business Scale-up and Productivity program in May 2024. This loan will allow SMMI to continue producing sodium sulfate at its facility in Chaplin while upgrading the plant to also produce sulfate of potash (SOP). These upgrades are expected to result in the production of 150 000 Mt of SOP per year and will double the workforce at the facility. Saskatchewan Mining and Minerals Inc. Anticipates that the upgrades will be complete and that it will begin producing SOP in 2026.
